TÓRSHAVN - Tórshavn saw the crowning of the first ever Miss Føroyar 2010 (Miss Faroe Islands). Miss Suðuroyar, Miriam Við Kvíggjá (photo, left), a 17-year old student from the southernmost town of Sumba on Suðuroy Island was crowned the winner whilst Súsanna Nilssen, Miss Sandoyar, placed second (photo, right).
The event took place at the TB-Húsinum in Tórshavn, the capital of the Faroe Islands. Eight contestants from four of the eight regions of the island country competed for the title.
The remaining contenders were Aleksandra Maricak, Anna Sømark, Arnina Kjærbo, Isabella Joensen, Marta Anthoniussen and Sára Olsen.
The Faroe Islands is an archipelago situated between the Norwegian Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, approximately halfway between Scotland and Iceland. The Faroe Islands are a constituent country of the Kingdom of Denmark. However, they share the same autonomous status as Greenland and residents of Faroe Islands, Danes or Faroes, are not citizens of the European Union.
It is unknown if the winner will compete internationally.
