Grand Slam Ranking: MISS INTERNATIONAL AND MISS SUPRANATIONAL RESULTS SHAKE UP THE GRAND SLAM RANKING

MISS INTERNATIONAL AND MISS SUPRANATIONAL RESULTS SHAKE UP THE GS RANKING

November 2010 - As Miss Supranational is welcomed into the Grand Slam, and Miss International is concluded, lots of significant changes took place in the GS Ranking, just one week after it had been updated with Miss World results.

China, for instance, earned another important position, and is now in 9th place (+1). Peru (18th), and Poland (19th), entered the 'top 20', pushing out Korea (now 21st), and Trinidad & Tobago (22nd).

In a spectacular year for Thailand (Miss World's semi-finalist, Miss Supranational's 4th runner-up, and Miss International's 1st runner-up), this southeastern Asian kingdom keeps on moving up, and is now 24th in the ranking.

Panama's Supranational victory meant +5 positions in the ranking, and it's now 32nd. England (5th in Supranational 2009) kicked Nicaragua out of the 'top 5': it is now in the 50th position. Honduras has made a significant move as well, from 74th to 62nd place (+12). Belarus gained 13 positions, moving from 81st to 68th place.

New additions were also very good for the Bahamas (now 89th), and Taiwan (back in the 'top 100', at 91st place).

The beautiful western African country of Gambia placed for the first time ever in a Grand Slam pageant (10th place in Miss Supranational), and made an extraordinary move, going from 170th to 127th place (+43) - photo.

Another African nation, Mali, debuted in the Grand Slam, after participating in Miss Supranational 2010: it entered the ranking in 197th place.

Venezuela, who conquered its 18th Grand Slam title, not only leads the GS Ranking comfortably, but it is also, so far, the Country of the Year. If it remains ahead after Miss Earth, it will be the 4th consecutive year Venezuela is the best performing nation in the world of pageantry.

MISS WORLD: CHINA IS BACK IN THE TOP 10

October 2010 - The American victory, plus Venezuela's 3rd place in Miss World, allowed both countries to increase their point difference to the other countries, including India, who is still 3rd, but now very close to Mexico, Puerto Rico and Brazil. It's the first time since 1994 that India did not place in both Miss World and Miss Universe.

Meanwhile, China (photo) celebrates its return to the 'top 10', thanks to placing 5th in Sanya. Ireland, 4th in Miss World, and 7th in Miss Universe, is so far "Country of the Year".

The Netherlands, +5, and now 46th, is back in the 'top 50' after a long time. French Polynesia, after great results in Tourism Queen last year, and now in Miss World, is already in 56th place, at the doorstep of the "top 50" and in a exciting fight for 2nd place in Oceania, still in New Zealand's hands.

The biggest jump of the year, however, belongs to Botswana: 74th, up 43 positions.

Mongolia, 88th, up 15, and Bahamas, 93rd, up 20, are great movers as well, bothe entering the 'top 100'.

With the Queen of the Caribbean in Miss World, St. Lucia is now 101th, up 21.

MISS UNIVERSE: MEXICO IS ON THE RISE!

August 2010 - The great work of Mexico's former Miss Universe and national director Lupita Jones reached its peak when Jimena Navarrete was crowned Miss Universe 2010, in Las Vegas (the same city where Lupita won the same title, 19 years before) earlier this month. Jimena's conquest put Mexico in 4th place in the Grand Slam Ranking, its best placement ever, and many believe that it could end the year in an incredible third place, ahead of India, which keeps on losing points and prestige in international pageantry.

But Mexico's amazing jump is not the only notable result after the conclusion of the first Grand Slam contest of 2010: Australia, for instance, has gained 5 position, going from 15th to 10th place, returning to the 'top 10' a after over two decades.

In Europe, not only Spain left the 'top 10' (15th), but it also lost the leadership in the Old Continent, which now belongs to Russia (9th).

Other 'movers' in the 'top 50' after their Miss Universe performances were Jamaica (25th, +5), Ukraine (37th, +5), and Ireland (40th, +5).

Belgium keeps on moving up fast: it ended in 75th place in 2008, was 60th in 2009, and started 2010 in the 53rd position, at the doorstep of the 'top 50'.

Albania escalated amazing 19 positions (from 80th to 61st), being the mover of the year so far, while Guatemala went from 91st to 83rd (+18).

The year hasn't started well for Zimbabwe, though. With its Miss Universe 2000's points being divided by 10, and no gain (it did not participate) in Miss Universe 2010, Zimbabwe had a vertiginous fall, from 87th to 114th place (-27).

Next stop is Miss World 2010, on October 30!
